Some members of the Okano clan have special eyes that allow them to see and interact with spirits or even talk with the dead, allowing the user to use their help in fights or even just collect information. If the eye condition deteriorates, it becomes much more powerful, allowing the user to see from extreme far distances and even have glimpses of the future and past of everyone but him/herself. This usually causes a lot of stress to the user in the form of severe headaches and can lead to insanity (see the background for more information). With a medication produced by the family and a proper training (which involves meditation and the cultivation of internal energies), it is possible to not let the eye deteriorate.
Background: The Okano clan started as a small family of gravediggers and undertakers who had also a talent for medicine and shamanism. If they couldn't keep people alive with medicine, they would make sure that they would be buried accordingly and well received in the afterlife. However, during a traumatic war, one member of the clan called Asuka started noticing strange things. After months tending to the injured and crying while burying the dead, the started seeing the spirits that inhabit the world (according to shintoism, every place has a spirit. A house, a tree, the earth, the sky, etc). Not only that, she was able to hear the dead. Sometimes they told her happy memories, sometimes they would say how much they want vengeance against certain people.

As time passes, her eyes started to develop. A young Asuka became able to see things she shouldn't, like the other kids hiding inside a big chest. Her vision kept improving. She became able to see beyond walls. To see the hills beyond the village. The other villages beyond the hills. Asuka was able to watch people living their lifes in distant villages and she did it a lot. She became a self-taught ninja by watching people training. Because of such eyes, she also learned secrets she shouldn't. She came forward with the Hokage, who decided not only to keep her abilities as a secret, but also to give her a shot at becoming a ninja. Asuka passed the Chuunin exam very fast and quickly became a jounin with only 17 years old.

Eventually she retired and had sons, but her eyes continued to develop and this brought her many problems. For starters, she started having severe headaches. She started doing all the things with eyes closed in order to avoid headaches. At this time, she started having visions about the past and the future of people. Everytime she would see something bad about the future of someone, she would try to change it, but with no avail. The future she was seeing is the absolute future people can't change at all: death. Soon, closing her eyes wasn't enough: she became able to see through her eyelids.

Asuka ended blinding herself because she couldn't tolerate anymore that absolute perfect vision she had. With the help of her clan and the Hokage, she discovered that her family had this bloodtrait that manifest itself in the eyes, giving them supernatural vision. However, the eyes tend to deteriorate itself, increasing its abilities by a big margin while putting the person who owns it under a lot of stress, potentially driving them insane if you don't control it accordingly. Thus, with a special medicine created by the clan and proper training in meditation and internal energies, it is possible to control the eye, not allowing it to deteriorate. Of course, this prevents the emergence of the full powers of the eye (like the absolute vision Asuka had, who could glance even the past and the future), but it allows the members of the clan to live a normal life and have a portion of the powers conceded by the bloodtrait.

Today, Asuka is a very old, blind woman who is said to know a lot of secrets.

Okay, so this Kekkai Genkai is technically a space-time bloodline, as it sees into a canon dimension called the "Pure Land" where dead souls go.

When a soul is at peace it goes into the Pure Land and effectively disappears into Heaven, so these eyes can only see into Purgatory, the land of unrest.
